Kids Got a Charge Out of the Franklin Open House

We had a great "Franklin is Electric!" open house yesterday.    We had a total of 57 people there -- I think we set a new attendance record.    I don't remember whose idea it was to hold the open house during Family Weekend, but it was a great idea.  Several students brought their siblings to see the science building and the demos we had going on.

A big thank you to everyone who helped out:
Gabe, Laura, Alaina, Ammon, Rose, Chris, Ryan, Tim S, and Spencer for doing demos.  You are awesome!
Jenna for canvassing for volunteers.
Kelly for e-mailing invitations to grade schools.
Heather for inviting families at FamilyWeekend check-in.
Tom for reminding me to check that we had liquid nitrogen before Praxair closed for the weekend (we didn't), and for being gopher.
Dr. Sieglaff for making a quick run to get more liquid nitrogen before Praxair closed for the weekend.
And me, for making cookies.

We were a little short on help, which meant I had to work the entry table, rather than just wandering around "being in charge."  Therefore, although I know what people's responses were as they were leaving --many thanked us and said the demos were great -- I don't know how each individual demo setup went.  I'd like to get someone from each demo to comment on how it went,  for future reference.  What did the kids like about the demo?  Were there any problems?  Are there ways we could make the demo better?

The kids found the bifocal/optics demonstration interesting. Not the most exciting of demos but the kids liked it. They definatly liked the glass armonica demo better though. They all seemed to like trying to get the glasses to make a noise. I had a couple of people who came through who could really get a lot of sound out of those glasses. It was a lot of fun.
