Happy Thanksgiving
I know I've been complaining lately about having an overload while trying to be a new department chair in a changing college environment. But on the occasion of Thanksgiving, it's time to say how grateful I am to have my job.
Being a physics professor has got to be the best job ever. I know some say that the 3 best things about being a teacher are June, July, and August, but I don't agree.
In what other job could I have all this?
- Academic Freedom -- and no micromanaging boss looking over my shoulder all the time. In fact, we are so free that when the "boss" does try to manage some aspect of our job, we fly off the handle. (That's not to say I won't continue to fly off the handle, of course.)
- "Customers" who don't demand the most for their money. Even better -- customers who want what you want and work toward a shared goal. Especially those that become your friends.
- Awesome physics toys!
- Last, but not least -- I don't have to wear heels. (Now if I could just find a job where I didn't have to wear shoes :-))
Happy Thanksgiving, and if you aren't lucky enough to be a physics professor, I hope you can find something else to be thankful for!

Physics toys are the best ever. So entertaining. :) And you don't have to wear shoes in class. I don't. *grin* I'm sure no one would mind a bare-foot professor.
Everyone is allowed to complain some. So long as it isn't too much. I'll tell ya when your complaining too much. ;)
