I Love Halloween!
Saturday was the annual Halloween Astronomy Open House. Unfortunately it was cloudy, but in breaks between clouds some of the 150 visitors got to observe the sky using the 14" telescope in the observatory and the new 6" Dobsonian telescope set up on the sidewalk. On the bright side, clouds could not dampen the planetarium shows and the presentations on meteorites that were repeated during the evening. Thanks to Lee Carkner and all those who helped out in bringing this fun event to the community.
These photos of Jenna, Laura and Alaina among others are on the club web page.
Jenna also carved a physics pumpkin for the lab. Dry ice made a spooktacular effect!
(Video of pumpkin on the club web page.)
And it wouldn't be Halloween without the fun of dressing up. Not all the wonderful costumes my students wore got captured by the camera, but here are a few. Here is also my costume -- can you tell what I am? (Hint: I am 6 things, and you might need to click for a closer look.)

Your costume had me giggling all day every time I thought of it. On Halloween I went wandering around all day as Schroedinger's cat. I even had a tail. Quite fun.
The open house was great. Heck, the little kids were happy to look through the big telescope (14") at the clouds. :) It was fun to see them get all excited when they saw the moon.
Wish I'd gotten a picture! (My camera battery was dead on Monday).
