Minutes of Jan 10 Physics Club Meeting

-Sunday Jan. 20th, is our open house. It will be from 1 til 4. If you are helping out with a demo please show up at noon for set up. The people volunteering for demos are: Jake, Rose, Jess, Alaina, Vivian, Kristen, Laura, Louis, Augie, Matt, Kyle, and Tim. We will have quick meeting on Thursday, at normal physics club time and place, to go over the demos.

-There is an opportunity to do some research for Augustana. The Library is having sound/acoustic problems and they want the physics department to look at how to fix it. The volunteers are Alaina, Jess, Jake, *insert others here*.

-We have some ideas for speakers this year. One idea is Bob Frank speaking on the materials that samurai swords are made from, this will be after we watch the Nova special on samurai swords. Another idea is having a grad student come and talk about grad school.

-We will also be taking down the physics christmas tree on Thursday.

P.S. We also talked about going to Bald Eagle Days (see previous post). That was fun!

We forgot to talk about the High School Visit Day coming up on Saturday 10:15-11:30 am (at 11:30, they will take a test to compete for a scholarship). We need volunteers to wow prospective students about how great it is to be a physics major at Augie, and to show off our demo stuff!

Also on Thursday, Gabe will be practicing the presentation he will be giving at the AAPT meeting in Baltimore next week. Come listen to his talk, then wish him luck!
